光通量

Flux
Around two years ago, a minimum of 100lm with a current of 350mA had been achieved for cold, white LED lights. Today, levels of up to approximately 140lm of the same colour temperature are now available. It has also been announced that Power LEDs of 150lm should be available later on in the year. In recent years, flux levels for neutral and warm, white colour temperatures have undergone massive development: these are more suited to the majority of indoor appliances. With regards to neutral colour temperature (about 4000K), products of up to 130 lm with a colour rendering index (CRI) of 75% are now available. In relation to this colour temperature, several high-profile manufacturers have introduced so-called outdoor versions: these versions have the same flux levels as cold light but a lower CRI. These products are tested, and in many cases used, to create appliances that until only recently were only possible using cold light, which was more powerful in terms of flux. As for colour LEDs, these are available in green with flux levels of up to 100lm, red up to almost 70lm and blue up to 35lm. Many of the high-profile producers have invested heavily in increasing the flux of white Power LED as these products are increasingly in demand for lighting devices. (Picture 1)

Chromatic rendering
This area has also seen significant improvements. In fact, a few years ago products with a high CRI were only available in the catalogues of a few manufacturers, whereas nowadays many manufacturers offer different types of these products. Warm white LEDs with CRIs of 80%, 85% and over 90% and flux levels well above those of two years ago are now available or will shortly be so. Such progress is due to the growing demand for indoor appliances.(picture 2) (picture 3)

CCT (correlated colour technology)
One of the aspects that, until recently, did not help the development of LED technology were colour bin limits, which, at the time, were not set as they are now. This matter, when not properly considered, could lead to matrices with compatibility levels inappropriate for the technology in which they were – and still are – important requirements. In recent years, manufacturers have made considerable progress, since most of them have ensured colour bin limits in line with the C78.377A (ANSI) Standard. This process could enable the production of matrices characterised by colour LEDs with a colour bin limit in which the variance in degrees Kelvin could be kept very low. (Picture 4)

These new performance-related findings mean that the LED is increasingly being used in numerous appliance; something that, until recently, had not been possible.
