The 6th November 2012 marked the launch of the Jonathan Speirs Scholarship Fund, a scholarship set up to provide support to students of architecture who wish to enter the architectural lighting profession.
Jonathan Speirs was one of the world’s leading architectural lighting designers. He is widely acknowledged as not only having been a pioneer of the profession of architectural lighting design in the UK but also a considerable influence on the work of a generation of lighting designers across the world. Jonathan recognised that although the profession was growing rapidly, opportunities for formal education in architectural lighting remained somewhat limited. At his behest, the Jonathan Speirs Scholarship Fund has been set up with the view to specifically allowing ‘A Student of Architecture to investigate the study of Architectural Lighting Design prior to seeking a permanent move into that field as a career’.
The scholarship aims to raise funding from the architectural lighting profession, architectural and engineering professions, various professional associations concerned with the promotion and development of lighting design, from the lighting industry and from companies and individuals who wish to make a contribution.
The Jonathan Speirs Scholarship Fund is being established as registered charitable trust.
Full details on the Fund and how individuals and companies can support it are available in the attached leaflet or contact jssf@speirsandmajor.com.
