在一些地区会举办灯光节，这无疑会凸显文化、历史以及地方特色。灯光作为一种文化的表现形式，然而不同区域的灯光差别并不会太大。比如大红灯笼对中国人来是喜庆与节日的象征，而内部的灯光却并无太大差异。
灯光节期间，灯光成为文化活动的辅助支持，重点是强调灯光所呈现的文化。如果是文化性的灯光秀，则很难看出鲜明的地方文化特色。因为这些灯光秀往往通过利用相同的技术来营造最为壮观的视觉效果，有时甚至连建筑立面都成为了灯光演绎的区域。对我来说，真正的文化灯光是当灯光文化并不依附于全球化而举办的当地节日。灯光并不是节日的重点，而只是庆祝节日或活动时的一个支持因素。即使灯光秀中会有一些艺术表演，灯光秀也只是关于灯光的展示。利用现代技术可实现更为壮观的视觉景象：巨大的动物影像、激光束、水幕、规模庞大的烟花节、多彩灯带等等。
现今有多种形式的灯光节。灯光节的重点要根据具体的节日主题而决定，就像戏剧一样。每一个灯光节都有各自的特点，无法判断出哪一个是最重要的。
The light festival must happen in some place. It for sure will enhance the culture, the history, the local feature of the place. The lighting is not different with different culture, but is a method to show the culture. For instance, the Chinese red lantern is a symbol for the Chinese for happiness and festive, but the light inside is the same as in other countries. The light is just a support of a cultural event, the subject is the cultural testimony that the light enhance.
If it a “cultural” light event, I do not see any local culture in light shows, They all use the same technics and fight to be the most spectacular, even building facades lighting become light show by them self. The real cultural lights are for me the local show based on light since ever, when the culture of the light was not global. Light is not a key part for the festival, it is always a support for a celebration or an event. But LIGHTSHOW is a show just for and with LIGHT, even there is artist performances in Light Shows. Modern technologies brings more spectacular tools such as Giant animated images, laser beams, water screens, huge fire works, multicolours light strips, and so on.
There are today many types of light festival. In my pint of view, it depends on the topic, that’s like theatre festival. Each of them has its own characteristics. It really difficult for me to tell which is the most significant one.
